U.S. employers whose benefit plan filed a final Form 5500
Type an employer name or an EIN. 2,567 employers whose plan of 50 participants or more filed a final Form 5500 for 2024.
Do you control the records of a company that has closed? Its internal data may still have value — see the data of a company that has stopped operating. Or a dated record report.
What this is
An employer that closes its retirement or benefit plan files a last Form 5500, marked “final return”. This site lists the single-employer plans of 50 participants or more that did so for the 2024 plan year, where the employer reported no other continuing plan that year. Each record gives the plan, the number of participants, the sector and the employer's location.
Who uses it
- Former employees — did my former employer close its plan, and under which name was it filed?
- Researchers and advisers — which employers of some size closed their plan in 2024, by state and sector?
- Trustees, receivers, former owners — see the data of a company that has stopped operating.
What it is not
Not the Department of Labor, not the IRS, and not proof that a company has closed. A final return closes a plan: the employer may have shut down, been acquired or merged, or only ended the plan. Participants are not employees: former staff with a balance are counted. For the plan's own documents, use the Department of Labor's Form 5500 search.
